Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What information do I need to provide to get a quote?
To prepare a quote, we always need at least the following information: medium, specific gravity of the liquid during operation, pressure, temperature, connections, center-to-center distance between the connections, design standard (DIN or ASME), and ATEX environment.
What materials can be used to make a magnetic level?
A magnetic level gauge can be made from any material that is non-magnetic (such as steel) and suitable for the application. Standard magnetic level gauges are made of 316 stainless steel or 1.4404 stainless steel. The float is made of 316Ti stainless steel, titanium, or plastic.
What is the diameter of the chamber in a magnetic level?
The standard outer diameter of the chamber of a magnetic level is 2" or 60.3 mm.
Why can't a magnetic compass be made of steel?
Steel grades with a ferritic or martensitic structure may be magnetic and do not transmit the float's magnetic field to the slats in the display unit.
What material is the display unit made of?
The display unit is made of aluminum. The window of the display unit is made of polycarbonate or glass. Other available materials include stainless steel and plastic.
How does a magnetic level work?
A magnetic level gauge functions as a communicating vessel with the tank or system to which it is mounted. Inside the chamber of a magnetic level gauge is a float. This float floats on the liquid, with most of it submerged and part of it above the liquid. At the liquid level, there is a magnet inside the float. This magnet operates the slats in the display unit. As the float passes by, the slats flip and change color from white to red, indicating the level.
Are magnetic level gauges designed in accordance with the PED?
Yes, magnetic level gauges are designed in accordance with the PED. Depending on the pressure and volume, they are marked with the PED logo.
Can magnetic level gauges be ATEX-certified?
Yes, magnetic level gauges can be ATEX-certified.
I'd like a special version of my magnetic level; is that possible?
Yes, any configuration is possible as long as the magnetic level gauge continues to function as a communicating vessel.
Can magnetic leveling instruments be manufactured according to my specifications?
Yes, magnetic leveling instruments are manufactured to customer specifications.
Do you carry magnetic levels in stock?
No, magnetic level gauges are manufactured according to customer specifications.
Do you keep rafts in stock?
Yes, we keep some floats in stock. However, floats are manufactured according to customer specifications.
The magnetic level gauge shows a different level than the other level measurements. How is this possible?
Inside the chamber of a magnetic level gauge is a float that floats on the liquid. This float is designed for this specific application. If the specific gravity of the liquid changes, the reading will be affected.
How accurate is a magnetic compass?
A magnetic level gauge provides a level indication. Changes in the specific gravity of the liquid, the pressure, and the temperature affect the reading. When reading the gauge visually, allow for an accuracy margin equivalent to the height of 2 slats (approx. 2.5 cm).
Can I install level switches on a magnetic level gauge?
Yes, magnetic level gauges can be equipped with magnetic switches.
Can I install a 4-20 mA transmitter on a magnetic level gauge?
Yes, magnetic level gauges can be equipped with level transmitters.
What is the service life of a magnetic level?
Magnetic level gauges are durable and have an expected service life of more than 15 years.
Does a magnetic level gauge require (periodic) maintenance?
This depends on the application. For example, in some applications, material may solidify or build up on the inside of the chamber or the float. In these cases, (periodic) maintenance is required.
How can I tell if the float is leaking?
Magnetic level gauges can be equipped with a float damage indicator on the bottom of the display unit. If this indicator turns blue, the float is leaking or the chamber is empty.
The float on my magnetic level is leaking. Can I order a new one?
Yes, that's possible. Always specify the process conditions, such as pressure, medium, specific gravity of the medium, and temperature. Also specify the inner diameter of the magnet level gauge chamber.
How much does a magnetic level cost?
The purchase cost of a magnetic level meter can vary widely, ranging from a few hundred euros to a few thousand euros, depending on the model and process conditions.
What are the advantages of Hadro magnetic leveling instruments?
Hadro magnetic level gauges offer the following advantages, among others: they are manufactured to customer specifications, are competitively priced, are easy to read, and require very little to no maintenance.
